On Saturday morning we slept in until 8 am (heaven), enjoyed yummy waffles for breakfast and then rode our trusty bikes a few blocks down to charming King Street in Old Town for the annual Scottish Parade. I'm such a sucker for parades.
We liked the manly kilts and loud bagpipes. It was all very colorful and festive!
The old Army vehicles were interesting too.
However, we really loved the cute dogs,
dogs,
dogs,
and oh did I mention dogs? Haha, that's D.C. for ya! (People tend to choose pets over children.)
Us enjoying the Scottish parade in all its glory.
It is pretty hilarious that there are countless of dogs in the Scottish parade! Who needs parade floats when one can have doggies? However, most were advertising for a particular canine shelter in the local area so it's all for a good cause. Many of the local citizens also bring their own family pooches to watch the festivities. It's just one good time for everyone! After the parade we went on a 15.5 mile bike ride on the Mt. Vernon Trail and around the incredible monuments in Washington D.C. It was one splendid day!
Mike chilling with George Mason. (Sorry Emily! Haha!)
Posing.
Biking past this gorgeous sight of the Washington Monument.
In front of the World War II Memorial. (I'm not sure why I look so distressed in most of these Iphone photos. I think I was standing on my tippy toes to be in the picture.)
The Washington Monument.
Lincoln Memorial.
It was such a fun bike ride and so grand to spend the morning with Michael. It's simple and relaxing days like these that I truly treasure!

Oh, and I wish I lived in DC.
What a fun day! I've always wanted to go to the Old Town Scottish parade but forget every year -- maybe in 2012!
Haha Laura! Thanks, I think! I wish that you lived in D.C. too...
